Apathy Not Allowed

2018 Grange Grassroots Activism Award Application | Online Application
DEADLINE: March 1, 2018

Apathy Not Allowed is a joint venture between the National Grange’s Youth and Legislative Departments that seeks to educate Grange Youth on crucial legislative matters affecting them and their Granges.

Subsequently, involved Youth will be educated on the many ways in which Grangers and citizens alike can advocate on issues they feel important to shape public policy and communities in which they live.

Among the world’s developed countries, the United States ranks second from the bottom in regards to voter turnout; a position that is entirely unacceptable if we are to grow as a nation and fix the problems we are currently facing. Political apathy is significantly higher among teens and young adults, who see little relation between government action and their daily lives. Thus, Apathy Not Allowed will work to engage our Grange Youth and get them involved as responsible citizens with a firm grasp on their civic duties as members of a free society.

Just as our Grange Declaration of Purposes suggests, we will ensure that our Grange Youth “take a proper interest in the politics of one’s country” so they might become the informed and involved citizens required to move America forward and to guarantee a better society for future generations.

To obtain more information about the program and order materials, including a guidebook, contact National Grange Youth Director, Charlene Espenshade by phone at (717) 361-2844 or by email at youth@nationalgrange.org.  Stickers and T-shirts are also available in the Grange Store.
